Interstitial brachytherapy Flashcards
What organs are treated with interstitial brachytherapy
Prostate
Breast
Cervix and Vagina - in addition to intracavitary implants.
Prostate interstitial BT
14-18 seeds implanted in needles through the perineum.
Used for patients with low=medium risk tumors
Patients cannot have voiding obstructive problems and prostate should be less than 60 mL.
Four weeks after implantation it is re-imaged and the post-edema volume of prostate determined, then the total dose delivered is determined.
Breast IBT
Done after tumor excision, surgical clips are left in the excised site.
The post-excision site is imaged, determining the size of the seroma.
Needles are inserted and then replaced with plastic catheters.
Another CT is taken, and then treatment plan is made and performed, and tubes are let in until it is finished.
