Negative feedback seeking
Actively soliciting criticism/negative feedback from others. Derived from self-verification theory (consistent w self-concept). This is so powerful, it overrides the pain of actually receiving the negative feedback
Cognitive-Affective crossfire model
Negative feedback is affectively displeasing, but in line with self-image so cognitively satisfying
Excessive reassurance seeking is affectively pleasing, but incongruent with self-image so cognitively dissatisfying.
Contributing to additional negative feedback seeking to decrease this comfort etc. etc.
Cognitive processing model
Self-enhancing feedback requires lot less cognitive resources. those w negative self-view, under high cognitive load prefer self-enhancing (ERS). Those w low cognitive load (NFS)
