Cognitive deficit
Executive functioning
Working memory
Processing speed
Cognitive control
Difficulty inhibiting negative from working memory (inhibition is difficult), and difficulty updating information from working memory. Causes rumination , increased reactivity to stress.
Cognitive emotion regulation strategies
How you cope w life events.
Ruminating: maladaptive, repetitive and passive thinking about negative mood states. interferes w effective problem solving.
Distraction: Adaptive, used less by depressed. Short term effect if instructed, maybe maladaptive on long run.
Reappraisal
Reinterpreting meaning/emotion interpretation of an experience to modify the experience. Done less in depressed, don’t predict recovery though.
Negative affective priming
Respond to target (black frame) and ignore distractor (grey frame). If you suppress grey emotion successfully, you’re slower when target is the same emotion. Depressed people are faster io slower. This is bc of lack in ability to inhibit the negative.
