Intermediate Back Muscles Flashcards
What are the intermediate back muscles
Serratus posterior superior
Serratus posterior inferior
Run from vertebral column to rib cage, elevate and depress ribs
Slight respiratory function
Serratus posterior superior
Thin rectangular shaped muscle deep to rhomboid muscles
Attachment of serratus posterior superior
Originates from lower part of ligamentum nuchae and C7-T3
Fibres pass in an inferolateral direction attaching to ribs 2-5
Action of serratus posterior superior
Elevates ribs 2-5
Innervation of serratus posterior superior
Intercostal nerves
Serratus posterior inferior
Broad and strong under the latissimus dorsi
Attachments of serratus posterior inferior
Originates from T11-L3
Fibres pass in superolateral direction, attach to ribs 9-12
Action of serratus posterior inferior
Depresses ribs 9-12
Innervation of serratus posterior inferior
Intercostal nerves
