What is the anatomical snuffbox?
Radial fossa, triangular depression found on lateral aspect of dorsal of hand. Located at level of carpal bones, best seen when thumb extended

Triangular, three borders, floor and roof
Ulnar (medial) border
Tendon of extensor pollicis longus
Radial (lateral) border
Tendons of extensor pollicis brevis and abductor pollicis longus
Proximal border
Styloid process of radius
Floor
Carpal bones; scaphoid and trapezium
Roof
Skin
Contents of anatomical snuffbox
Radial artery, superficial branch of radial nerve, Cephalic vein
Radial artery
Crosses floor of anatomical snuffbox, turns medially and travels between heads of adductor pollicis muscle
Radial pulse palpated by placing two fingers on proximal portion
Superficial branch of radial nerve
Found in skin and subcutaneous tissue
Innervates dorsal surface of lateral three and a half digits, and associated area on back of hand
Cephalic vein
Arises from dorsal venous network of hand and crosses anatomical snuffbox to travel up anterolateral aspect of forearm
