Q

Intelligence - Adding value: Explain Insight and Foresight ?

A

Insight - Understanding beyond what’s immediately observable. Looks at drivers behind behaviour, events or demand, including culture, history, demographics, economics, language, perceptions, geography, environmental factors and lived experiences. It’s essential to understanding why things are as they are.

Foresight - A predictive analysis of what to expect in the future, including probable, possible and worst case futures. Also includes identification of opportunities and threats. Enables decision-makers to effectively plan and prevent harm in our communities

Q

Tasking and Coordination
How is the T & C process structured ?

A
  • Prevention First: Deployment Model
  • Components of Deployment
    1. CCI - provides essential information on demand, resources, intel, performance and evidence-based policing to inform T&C decision makers
    2. T & C - decides on activities and allocates resources to impact Crime & Crash
    3. Workforce Management - delivers capability and capacity
    4. Operational Delivery - implementation of tactics against C & C
  • Prevention First - National Operating Strategy

  • Youth - Rangatahi
  • Families - Whanau
  • Roads
  • Organised Crime and Drugs
  • Mental Health
17
Q

Tasking and Coordination
What are some of the benefits of Tasking & Coordination?

A
  • Increased “public safety” and “confidence” with reduced crime and crash
  • Increase public confidence – delivering on our promises
  • Ability to deploy Police using intelligence and workforce management leading to greater impact on crime and crash
  • Better informed decision-making - resulting in cost benefits
  • Better management of risks associated with unmet demand
  • Deployment to National and Local priorities balanced with strategic and tactical priorities which use the drivers of crime as basis for prioritisation
  • Nationally consistent practice, enables Inter-district and Trans-national issues to be escalated and prioritised
  • Better protection of vulnerable people, particularly repeat victims
  • Better management of crime hotspots and priority locations
  • Better targeting of known offenders and criminal activities that have National impacts
  • More cost effective use of resources
  • Increased use of community partnerships leading to less reliance on Police as the sole response to an issue
