Intelligence Flashcards
What is Piaget’s definition of intelligence 3:
- It’s biological - generic based intelligence
- It is evolving - continues to change over time
- It is adaptive - an organism becomes better adapted to environment
Howard Gardner developed a theory of 7 types of intelligence, what were they?
- Linguistic
- Logical - maths etc top down
- Spatial
- Musical
- Kinaesthetic
- Interpersonal
- Intrapersonal
What was the CHC model?
Fluid and crystallised intelligence
What is fluid intelligence (Gf - general fluid)
Solving problems - adapting to environment aka innate part of intelligence
What is crystallised intelligence?
How we use learned information and knowledge
What does IQ stand for?
Intelligence quotient
How do you calculate ratio iQ
Mental age divided by chronological age multiplied by 100
What is deviation iQ
Comparison of individuals performance with others of same age
What was the Stanford-Binet intelligence scale?
It’s based on CHC model of cognition functioning
What does an iQ test measure?
Verbal, spatial, working memory, processing speed
What is cultural transmission?
Intelligent behaviour can we socially learned and transmitted
Why do we have a slow body growth as a baby?
High metabolic cost of brain development - slowest body growth when brain growth is at its highest
What are the sacrifices of increased brain growth on other traits?
Humans are not
Vulnerable, rely on parents for longer and can’t breed as many offspring
