What is the frequency illusion aka Baader-Meinhof phenomenon?
The cognitive bias that we tend to notice soemthing for the first time and then to see it everywhere giving the impression that it’s come from nowhere and taken over the world. It’s based on selective attention (noticing things that are currently important to use and disregarding the rest) and confirmation bias (looking for information that supports our hypotheses and disregarding information that does not)
It’s based on an online discussion held in 1994 about a West German terrorist Baader-Meinhof group that was active in the 1970s, after the event lots of folks recognized recent references to Baader-Meinhof despite it having no reason to be in the news
