Cardiac Arrest Flashcards
1
Q
Poor prognostic factors
A
Absent pupil response
Absent motor response
Seizure or myoclonus
Lack pupillary and corneal reflexes at 24hrs AND have no motor response at 72hrs chance of meaningful recovery is very small (but to some extent this is a self-fulfilling prophecy)
2
Q
Ancillary tests for cardiac arrest
A
Bilateral SSEPs - great specificity, low sensitivity (absent SSEP = 0% awakened)
CSF CK-BB - 100% specificity, 48% sensitivity (cutoff has CHANGED from 204 to 363 as the assay changed) - predicts awakening?
Brain MRI - typically deep and bilateral parietal and occipital lobes - but a lot of variability, not great specificity
3
Q
Post cardiac arrest most specific ancillary test
A
SSEP!!
