“Can I file to my destination?”(1-3-6 rule, number 1)
Destination weather must be forecast to be => the published weather planning minimum for the approach procedure to be flown at ETA through one hour after ETAPredominant weather will applyReduce CAT “A” vis. by 50% (not less than 1/4)Reduction of visibility for approaches labeled “copter only” is not authorizedReductions made after correctionsCAT II approach procedures may not be used in destination or alternate weather planning
For all IFR flights and/or VFR cross-country flights, the weather forecast will be void ___.
one hour and 30 minutes from the time the forecast is received provided the aircraft has not departed. The crew should update weather briefing information on stopover flights.
An alternate airfield is required when filing IFR to a destination under any of the following conditions:(1-3-6 rule, number 3)
Radar is required to execute the approach procedure to be flown. The instrument approach NAVAIDs to be used are unmonitoredThe predominant weather at the destination is forecast at ETA through one hour after ETA to be less than:Ceiling 400’ above / Visibility 1 mile greater
Alternate airfield planning:An alternate is not required if ___.
descent from en route minimum altitude for IFR operation, approach, and landing can be made in VFR conditions.
An airfield may not be used as an alternate if…?(1-3-6 rule, number 6)
Radar is required for the approach to be flown. The approach nav. aids are unmonitored. The approach procedure is A/NA.If class B, C, D, or E surface area airspace does not exist or is not in effect at the airport to be used.If GPS is required for the approachThe forecast worst weather (at ETA through 1 hour after ETA) is less than 400-1 above the military planning minimums for the approach to be flown.
How can the 3 and 6 rules (regarding the 1-3-6 rule) be overridden?
An alternate is not required and or an airfield may be used as an alternate if the descent, the approach, and the landing can be made in VFR conditions from the minimum altitude for IFR operation.VFR Exception Rule(MIA minus Airport Elevation plus Cloud Clearance then rounded up = Ceiling needed)
In regard to wind drift correction in a holding pattern, what do you do with the outbound and inbound drift correction?
When the aircraft is outbound, triple the inbound drift correction. If correcting left by 8 degrees when inbound, correct right by 24 degrees when outbound
An aviator who has not logged 50 hours or more of actual weather time as PC has what minimums in order to takeoff (depart)?
ceiling 100 feet and either visibility 1/4 mile, RVR 1,200 feet
