A
sharp edge –> no light reflection
dull edge –> surface reflects light

- sterile sharpening stone (rectangular, cylindrical)
- lubricant: oil, water
- sterile plastic stick test

A
- at first sign of dullness
- after autoclaving
- if during treatment, maintain infection control

- to sharpen opposite edge, turn toe/tip away

- toe at 3:00

- move stone up & down, rotating the stone around the toe
