IR Test conduct and completion
- Carried out to standards set out in CAD 170 and Training Manual.
- In accordance with Regs and Legs
- All parts completed in 28 days
IR Classification
- Type-specific: EFIS and FMS (list)
- Generic: all other, test valid for all type in class
Test Conditions - Type-specific IR
- ALL avbl eqt, including FMS, AP, A/THR
- Tolerances as stated plus provisos

- Candidate checks validity of initial and subsequent programming of FMS (insertion by PNF if per SOP)

DEP APPR based on radio aids
- Must be displayed, identified, monitored by both pilots.

Enroute section
- May be latter part of SID/initial part of arrival.
- En-route NAVAIDs may be auto tuned
- Manual tuning/needle display if per SOP

LNAV RNP
- Appropriate FMS lat NAV mode should be engaged.
- Tracking accuracy within RNP by monitoring programming and performance.

Radio aid ID
- Identify aurally or visually
- Clear indication of ID to IRE.

Incorrect set-up or use of FMS
- Fail point.
FMS Holding
- Based on 1 min INBOUND leg
- Varying AOB to acq inbd trk.
- Candidate to time OUTBOUND leg
Test condition - Generic IR
- No AP except during APPR brief
- FD may be used as agreed by IRE
- Track INBD/OUTBD NDB only needle
(VOR using RMI may substitute) - Track VOR radial using CDI

Sec 1. Flight Prep
- All pre-DEP checks and drills
- Use of checklists
- Visual checks: Point out to IRE
Sec 2. TO & CLB
- Visual TO
- instrument DEP and CLB
- Initial ALT or FL at which a/c clean
- Follow published route/ATC instructions
Sec 3. En-route
- Along planned route in acc. ATC instructions.
- Use tracking facilities as briefed by IRE
- Must demonstrate ability to maintain specified track
Sec 4. Holding
- En-route or as part of APPR
- Standard entry to inbound HDG
- At least one full hold
- Comply local regs/SPD limits
- Able to achieve inbd trk
Sec 5. ILS & MISAP
- No radar vectors after IF
- Follow published horizontal/vertical pattern.
- At DA(H) go-around, published MISAP unless directed by ATC.
- DH AAL.
Non-precision approach (RNP APPR if applicable)
Initial IR only
Rest requirements
- Failure in a section: Retest that section only
- Failure of Sec 2 AND 5: Complete retest
- 3 or more sections: Complete restest
Post Test
- Renewal: Sign C of T (date, type, reg or sim code)
- First test on type: Do NOT sign C of T, send DCA 80 to CAD.
- Ensure ONLY applicable C of T signed.
- Fail: Follow “Fail recorded”
