If not plates = atc can read you procedure

General = 1000’ above highest obstacle within 5nm
Mountainous areas = 2000’ clearance
What is the design of a instrument departure based on
The surrounding terrain
What is the departure procedure design gradient
3.3%
What is the straight departure
Track within 15° of runway alignment
Based upon track guidance (VOR etc) 20kms from DER)
What is a turning departure
If requires >15° from alignment of runway
10km after completion of turn = needs track guidance
Straight flight assumed until 120’ above DER
At least 90m min obstacle clearance
What happens on a departure if no track guidance
= Omni directional departure
= same profile as turning departure
What equipment must a aircraft have for a SID
2 VORS
1 ADF
1 DME
Can a departure be done automatically
Yes by FMS but raw data monitored by pilots
