Q

Turns to a Heading

A
  • Tune heading bug
  • AOB = change in heading or 30% if change in heading > 30%
  • Use rudder to maintain coordinated turn
  • Use of power may be necessary
  • Roll out 5* before desired heading
  • Restore initial power setting if adjusted

Q

Vertical S Alpha

A
  • Tune heading bug to maintain heading
  • simultaneously increase to ~55% power and 4-6* NH
  • right rudder & trim
  • 1,000fpm VSI, constant airspeed
  • level off 100ft before 1000ft of altitude gain
  • @ 1000ft gain decrease to 15% and 1-2* NL
  • left rudder & trim
  • 1000fpm VSI and constant airspeed
  • level off 100ft prior to 1000ft of altitude loss
  • Increase power to ~32% to maintain 150 KIAS level flight

Q

Unusual Attitude

A

Recognize, Confirm, Recover

Low:
Retard PCL (not idle), roll wings level, ease control stick back to level flight. Advance PCL as required for constant airspeed

High:
Advance PCL, bank to 90* AOB, roll wings level when nose drops to the horizon. Retard PCL to maintain constant airspeed

Q

Steep Turn 45*

A
  • tune heading bug to know where to roll out (360*)
  • smoothly increase bank to 45*
  • Advance PCL to ~45% and pitch 3* NH
  • use rudder to maintain coordinated flight
  • start roll out ~15* prior to desired heading
  • Retard PCL to 32% for straight and level flight
