Q

Iron Ions In Haemoglobin

A
  • haemoglobin = large protien that carries O2 around the body
  • made up of 4 dif polypeptide chains which each have Fe2+ in centre
  • Fe2+that binds to O2 in haemoglobin
  • when oxygen is bound Fe2+ temporarily becomes Fe3+ until oxygen released

Q

Phosphate Ions

A
  • PO4 3- attached top another molecule known as a phosphate group
  • DNA, RNA + ATP contain phosphate groups
  • bonds between phosphate groups that store energy in ATP
  • phosphate groups in DNA + RNA allow nucleotides to join up to form polynucleotides
