Explain the function of a Competitive Inhibitor

Have a shape similiar to the substrate. Binds to the active site so the correct substrate cannot bind. The degree of inhibition depends on relative conc. of substrate and inhibitor.

Explain the function of Non Competitive Inhibitor

Answer 2

Have a different shape and it binds to the enzyme at the other site (Allosteric) not active which causes active site to change shape. The correct substrate can no longer bind so rate of reaction is reduced
