Inhaled Anesthetics Flashcards
Halothane
General anesthetic, thought tobind GABA-A. Toxicities atelectasis, liver necrosis, malignant hyperthermia whn administered with succinylcholine. Only inhaled anesthetic not metabolize entirely by LUNGS also liver).
Halothane adverse side effects
Decreases BP, decreases minute ventlation by depressing edullary respiration centers (results in increased CO2), incrases CSF pressure, and decreases CNS metabolism.
Isoflurane
Binds GABA-A. halogenated, volatile gas.
Enflurane
Halogenated, volatile gas that can cause seizures, skeletal muscle relaxation.
Sevoflurane
Degradation while in contact with CO2 can cause vinyl chloride to form creating liver problems (HCC).
Desflurane
halogenated volatile gas.
NO (nitrous oxide)
Binds to B12 – B12-like neuropathy in dentist who use this and reduced WBCs and RBS. Given as an adjuvant with halogenated anesthetics because of second gas effect. Few physiological effects.
Gas:Blood coefficent.
Want to be low.
MAC
more potent, the lower it is. They are additive.
