  • need to use bright colours so they are eye-catching.
  • road signs can include symbols so people can understand them.

A

The ingredients and their percentages.
Storage and best before dates (symbols can be used for this).
Weight or volume (e for estimate).
How to produce or prepare it with symbols.
Nutrition such as sugar and fat.

What are barcodes used for ?

A

They are used at supermarkets.
When an object is scanned it tells the object origin and name+price.
It shows shopping habits so retailers can promote popular products. They can also tell retailers what items are selling and what items need to be reordered.

They can tell us how to clean the clothes with symbols or written directions.

A

This shows that the object passes safety standards.

What types of symbols are there?

A

Enactive- shows movement such as someone crossing the road.
Abstract/symbolic - symbolising something such as the five rings in the olympics.
Ideograms - these convey a story as used with hieroglyphics. Today they show trees are nearby.
Pictograms - more stylised than ideograms with block colours. They are wordless so can be used worldwide.

What are logos used for ?

A

To add to a corporate identity alongside the uniforms, values, behaviour, and relations of the company.
They combine symbols and text.
They should be bold and effective, used on a variety of materials with a variety of sizes.
Should be given with enough information.

What types of logos are there?

A

Logogram - uses initials - MUA
Logotype - a different typeface such as Virgin which is hand drawn.
Symbols - the apple logo.
Background image - provides information about the product such as cadburys milk.
