Media - may be positive or negative on TV, newspapers or radio like squash not shown much but football is
Fashion - some clothes are more fashionable like for snowboarding ‘Coleen than for skiing or more ‘fun’ for basketball than all-white tennis
People
Family - aware of certain activities from a young age and may start because amply members do it
Peers - to meet or have fun with friends or they enjoy it and you vie their opinion
Role models - start to be like them or because look up to them
Culture
Age - 70 year olds find tennis more suitable than rugby
Disability - certain sports can be adapted like basketball or tennis or football with a jingly ball
Gender - rugby and boxing or netball and dance
Resources
Availability - not all activities are readily available, suitable club or venue
Access - age requirement or physical barriers or cost
Location - not too far away and accessible by public transport
Time - other commitments and enough time available like some hours for golf
Health and wellbeing
Someone in good health might be motivated to take part in an activity
A short illness like a cold may prevent activities
Long-term illnesses and health problems can make continuing any physical activity difficult
Socio-economic factors
Some inaccessible or relatively inexpensive but high cost of clothing, memberships and equipment make it difficult to take part

To remain involved when stopping playing because of possibly an injury, a dislike or not meeting standards

Organised to run teams and arrange games or training session
