Influence on the staff members:
Safeguarding
The staff role is to protect people from harm which is supported by the legislation.
- the care Act 2014 established a new statutory framework, which include adult safeguarding.
- the children Act 2004 including paramountcy principles and encourages partnership working to protect children. .
- working together to safeguard children 2015 provides statutory guidance on the inter-agency working to safeguard and promote the welfare of children.
Health and Safety ( On staff)
Employees are responsible for they own safety and of others. They should:
- follow systems of work in place for their safety
- co-operate with their employers on health and safety matters
- inform employers if they spot any hazards
- check if their activities do not put others at risk.
Training ( on staff)
Employers are required to attend training according to their job role. This is so their knowledge of the job can improve, including skills to the required standard. e.g. training in the health and safety, data protection, safeguarding etc.
Influence On Premises
all environments in the HSC setting must have a high level of hygiene e.g. in nursing general cleanliness and personal hygiene.
- Any care setting providing food must comply with food safety regulations and are checked frequently.
- Risk Assessments for Activities and equipment must be carried out to ensure the safety of all who work they.
- Health and Safety Law requires fire exists to be kept clear and well signposted; fire extinguisher should be available by exists and fire blankets in the kitchen.
Special evacuation equipment should be available if needed, depending on the type of setting, for example e vac chairs.
- The Equality Act 2010 requires adaption to those with disabilities. this could include having a Disabled parking spot close to the building , automatic doors, disabled toilets etc.
Influence on Practices:
examples include….
- Activities and Equipment are risk assessed.
- staff not trained in the manual handling should not attempt to move or lift equipment.
- Critical points where food condemnation could occur have to be identified and control measures put in place.
- COOSHH file should be kept and updated regularly.
- work related injuries and diseases should be reported according to the RIDDOR regulations.
