Infectious SEI signs
A
Location typically central 6mm Single SEI Size greater than 1 mm Staining equal to size of lesion Pain and photophobia severe \+ mucopurulent discharge Injection diffuse and severe AC +cells and +flare \+Lid edema

Sterile SEI signs
A
Peripheral, located at 2,4,8,& 10 o’clock Clear lucid zone between cornea and limbus Single or multiple SEIs Smaller <1 mm lesion size Staining less than lesion Less Pain and photophobia Injection is localized mild to moderate AC reaction minimal to no cells /flare No mucus discharge No lid involvement

Treat peripheral SEIs 1mm or less
A
Gatifloxacin gtts q1 hour while awake x2-3 days
Polysporin ung qhs
Recheck every 2-3 days.
If staining resolved, then decrease drops to qid x5 more days

Mid peripheral ulcers
A
Refer to ophthalmologist to culture.
If small can try gatifloxacin but if no,improvement in 1-2 days, need dual fortified Abs

Central ulcer
A
Refer to ophthalmologist
