probability of conceiving each month
If a woman has menstrual cycles but no moliminal sx’s, do you eval for ovulation?
Yes, b/c moliminal sx’s + periods = ovulation
What is the period of fertility for ova and sperm?
ova–12-24hrs, sperm–3 days
When does body temp rise in the menstrual cycle?
1d after ovulation
How do you evalute women with amenorrhea?
progesterone challenge 10mg x5d and testosterone/DHEA levels
How do you evaluate women w/irregular cycles or h/o SABs?
prolactin, TSH, mid cycle progesterone, LH predictor kit
How does the endometrium develop?
under the influence of progesterone from the corpus luteum
Where is HCG secreted from?
the trophoblast after it invades the endometrium
How long does it take for the fertilized egg to reach the uterus and implant?
6 to 7 days
What progesterone level indicates a viable Pg?
> 25ng/dL
What are therapies for ovulatory d/o?
wt loss, GnRH, gonadotropin therapy (LH & FSH IM), tamoxifen, clomid, bromocriptine, ART
What are therapies for males?
varicocele–wear boxers, get surgery, intrauterine insemination, intracytoplasmic sperm injection), endocrine tx
