What is caused by pericarditis
impaired diastolic filling which l/t s/s of HF
What is the Dressler’s syndrome
Pericarditis that appears weeks to months after an MI.
s/s malaise, fever, increased WBC
ECG changes or pericarditis
ST elevation (concave), PR depression
Definitive Dx of Myocarditis
endomyocardial biopsy
What is caused by rheumatic endocarditis
Mitral vale regurgitation (most common) bc of shortening of the leaflets.
Valvular stenosis
S/S of endocarditis
Fever
Murmurs
Splenomegaly
Splinter hemorrhage
Osler’s nodes (nodules in the fingers or toes)
January lesions (hemorrhagic lesions on palms and soles)
Systemic and Pulmonic emboli
Tx of rheumatic endocarditis
IV Abx (penicillin) for 4-6 weeks Prevent emboli that can lead to stroke
S/E of long term Abx use
Renal toxicity.
Ototoxicity
GI problems (N/V)
Tx. of Infective Endocarditis
IV Abx for 4-6 weeks
Immediate surgical repair or replacement of affected valve
