A
- En will be blind.

Condition for Silent attk.
A
- No man’s land must be dominated by ptl prior to attk.
- Ni must be dark.
- Assaulting troops must be highly trained.
- Going must be suitable for silent movement or weather must be rough.
- En must not be alert or active in sector chosen.

- Creating a diversion or illuminating area away from the main attk.
- Conducting the attk without fire sp or illuminating the area.

A
- Deg of darkness.
- Grnd.

- Bn frontage = 400-600m depending upon visibility.

Rate of adv in Ni Attk
A
No obst/Good visibility= 100 yds in 2-3 mins.
Obst exists/diff trn / bad visibility= 100 yds in 5-6 mins.

- Ph of the moon.
- En’s ptl habits.
- Time req for the asslt and fighting through the obj, breaching the main obst and move fwd of Sp wpns.
- Time rqr for completing reorg.
- Time taken to assemble and form up the force.

Failure to hold obj at Ni can often be attributed to the fol factors
A
- Loss of dir.
- Loss of cdrs and key pers.
- Loss of radio sets causing difficulty in calling for fire Sp.
- Faulty disposn taken up on the obj in the darkness.
- Lack of success on certain parts of the obj, the repercussion of which are known only at first light.
- The inevitable confusion on reaching the obj and lack of liaison with flk units/sub units.
- Difficulty in getting up Sp wpns.

Successful reorg
A
- Comns should be duplicated.
- Every cdr must have an understudy and every man must know the plan and Bn cdr intent.
- Very detailed orders must be issued to get Sp wpns and reorg stores. Rc and guides should be organised on the far side of main obstacles to ensure these arrive at correct place.
- Bn cdr should arrive at the obj soon after its capture to reorg and ensure that patrol are sent out to prevent the en to achieve surprise.
- Orders for reorg must be known to all ranks.
- Arty and mortar should be prepared to produce smoke screen at first light.
