The aim of attk may be to
- Seize and hold grnd which is either required for own ops or to deny its use to the en.
- Destroy the en force.
- Contain en force or divert its attn from other AO
Attk Ops may take place in fol cases:
- Against hastily organized def.
- Against highly organized def.
Types of Attack
- Quick attack against hastily org def.
- Deliberate attack against highly org def.
Quick Attack:
- Time is of paramount imp
- Emphasis on use of direct firing wpns.
- Armr, if available be used boldly.
- Arty sp restricted due to time constraint for deployment.
- Speed is likely to give better result. Entails deg of decentralization.
- Achieved by good battle procedure and well-practiced battle drills.
- Certain risk taken due to reduction in time for reccee and planning.
- Correct appre of en str of def is essential.
Deliberate Attack:
- Careful and detail planning and coordination of all
- All available resources under centralized control.
- Through study of all aval info including int report and air photoghaph should be done.
- Detailed recce and intense patrolling nec
Basic consideration of Attk

Combat Superiority:
Combat superiority can be achieved by concentration of superior force decisive point and time. Where it is not possible calculated risk may be taken by: [Dynamic SHOD]

- Attacking from unexpected direction making use of difficult trn and adverse weather condition
- Plan for the attack should be simple, original, audacious and executed with speed
- Full advtg should be taken of battle drills and procedures
- Initiative is with the attacker so force the en to fight the battle under unfavorable circumstances
- Giving least time for reaction to the enemy
- En should be kept guessing of time and direction of attack
Depth and Frontage of the Attack:
Depth of the penetration required can only be achieved by reducing the frontage. Attack should be organized in depth and on narrow front, this will: [CDMA]

4. Allow quick mopping up

An attack must start from a firm base. This includes secure Start Line. Firm base ensures the fol:
