How can the cdr influence the battle?
The cdr exerts his influence on the battle mainly in the fol ways.
- Before the battle.
(a). Sound plan.
(b). Clear and firm orders.
The fol are particularly imp in an attk:
(a). All members of the ‘O’ gp should see the grnd , air photos or a model must be used.
(b). Recce of area must be extensively controlled.
(c). Cdrs of Sp arms must be present at the order esp. those who took part in the plg.
(d). Adequate time must be allowed for subordinate cdrs and Sp arms.
(e). Cdr. must give his visualisation of battle.
- Durind the battle.(CAR MCC P)
(a). Commit res.
(b). Air strikes.
(c). Redistribution of forces.( Main and secondary attk)
(d). Modifying the plan.
(e). Changing objs.
(f). Changing bdrys, increasing or decreasing the ration of tps and fire power.
(g). Personal influence by presence at the critical time and space.
The composition and size of any mil force that can be sustained in Mtn depends on:
- No. and capacity of rds and the means of improving them.
- Amount of grnd and covers avail for dply off route.
- Avail of specialist tpt, eqpt and Sup.
- Climate.
- Altitude.
When porterage is nec in High Alti, the wpn, ammo and eqpt of a unit may be carried by one of the fol methods.
- Unit Self help (Total wt. for a man should not exceed 20 kg)
- Tps of other unit, attachment esp for porterage. (10-15 kg payload and 10 kg domestic load)
- Local porters. (16 kg payload and 8 kg domestic load, may be increased by 2 kgs if porters carrying only one day ration)
- Combination of any of the above.
P.S. Hillman may carry 30-32 kg.
In High Altitude,Staff checklist prepared by the Staff Officer for his Cdr should reflect:
- Info reqd for each Pd of attk.
- Actions to be taken by him or his branch during each Ph or Pd.
- Consultation and coordination reqd with other staff officers in HQs.
- Consultations and coord reqd with Heads of arms and services or their rep.
