How did the physical characteristics of the environment affect a planter’s decision about what crops to climate?
If the area was dry, you couldn’t plant cotton because the climate would not allow it. The person knows when to plant specific things because of the climate
What are three reasons that cotton became “king” in the South?
Three reasons were that it was the South’s most profitable resource, it required rich soil, and provided clothing and cushions
Why were there few factories in the South?
Less populated, free labor, and they would be wasting money; they can buy some tools from the North instead of making a factory to produce these tools

More people being employed
How did the rapid growth of cities affect urban living conditions?
Overcrowded, the sewage would become the worst, there was garbage everywhere, noise, pollution, health problems, and sanitation
How did enslaved African Americans adapt to slavery and how did they resist it?
Adapt: They listened to their owners, turned to religion, they even though they were separated they still wanted to keep their special traditions.
Resist: They broke tools, destroyed crops, and started uprisings against the slave owners.

What are the differences that industrialization created between the North and the South?
The North created factories and urbanized, but the South stayed mostly the same with farmland and rural areas
What was the value of cottonocracy, slave codes, and the creation of the cotton gin to the Southern economy?
In the Southern economy, cottonocracy (people who owned 50 or more slaves) were considered wealthy and important in this economy. Slave codes, rules that prevented slaves from escaping, limited the rights of free African Americans. The cotton gin cleaned cotton more efficiently, decreased time, and made the cotton more profitable
Why did the North boom with industry and the South stay in an agricultural area?
They were making so much money in the south they didn’t need factories they could rely on their slaves. But they had to rely on the north to buy tools because they didn’t have a factory to make them.
