Residential Schools

A

-government sponsored religious schools that were made to change Indigenous children into Euro-Canadian culture.
-Ran by Christian churches
-First school in 1831 Brantford
-Last School closed 1996 in Saskatchewan
-Estimate of 150,000 attended these schools
-Roughly 6000 children died here
-Over 130 residential schools
-Apologies from the prime ministers took place
-Truth and reconciliation created
