What is Approved Document M?

A

Building Regulation approved document

  • Outlines the access and use of buildings.

Provides information about the ease of access to, and use of, buildings including facilities for disabled visitors or users, and the ability to move through the building easily including access to toilets and bathrooms.

Provides guidance on the use of ramps and steps to ensure ease of access, with information including safe degrees of pitch and dimensions when building a wheelchair accessible facility. This guidance also addresses the construction of accessible stairs and corridors, including the safe height of stairs.
Also provides guidance on extensions to existing buildings other than dwellings.
