One that allows for dignified, equal and intuitive use for everyone.
What legislation is relevant to inclusive environments?
Equality Act 2010.
Tell me about the Equality Act 2010.
Repealed and consolidated other anti-discrimination legislation. Prevents discrimination and provides the ‘reasonable adjustments’ must be made in the context of property.
Why do inclusive environments make sense for landlords?
Legislative reasons, ethical reasons and also it pays in the long run - inclusive buildings have more potential users and should be more profitable.
Give some examples of how a building might be inclusive.
Doors that are lightweight / electronically operated.
Non-reliance on voice tannoy systems.
Noticeboards that can be read sitting down.
Ramps/lifts as well as steps.
Hearing aid loop in common parts.
