What is legacy diversity
Easily recognizable traits - such a physical characteristics (age, language, gender, etc)
What is experiential diversity?
Diversity based on lived experiences (where they grew up, family, hobbies, etc)
What is thought diversity?
Different perspectives from education & socioeconomic background
What type of diversity can create cliques?
Experiential diversity
What type of diversity can prevent against “group think”?
Thought diversity
What is inclusion?
Making someone feel welcomed, supported, and valued
What is an important byproduct of effective inclusions?
Diversity - people will feel attracted to a company who makes them feel included and welcomed
What is equity in hiring?
Giving folks a “leg up” to break down demographic barriers and challenges - providing additional resources to those who need them
Core concept of equity
Ensuring everyone has the same ability to contribute to their fullest potential
What is the strategic value of diversity?
Expanding the range of thinking and perspectives
Benefit of I&D strategic plan
Helps avoid resistance
What is first step to achieving I&D goals?
Education of leaders - for example through mandatory training
How to protect I&D strategy from going away with executive leader / champion moves on

What can we rely on allies for?
Model empathy and be ambassadors for change - allies are advocates
What causes unconscious bias?
Implicit biases cause unconscious bias
What is the purpose of unconscious bias training?
Illustrates biases someone may have and how it may impact their attitudes, bx and decision making
What is affinity bias?
Assumptions made based on shared or similar experiences
What is systemic racism
Organization imposes set of philosophies, policies that result in system-wide discriminatory treatment of a group due to their race
What is the SHRM empathy index?
I&D is not possible without focusing on empathy in the workplace - the empathy index is used to assess inclusion
What is the purpose of pay audits?
Determines if certain sets of individuals are paid less or more on average than others
What is included in a pay equity report?
The results of a pay audit
