In Class Oral Review Flashcards
If the main buses are powered, is the ESS BUS also powered?
Yes
Where is the APU battery located?
Aft equipment bay
Where is the main battery located?
Nose compartment
How many ways to keep fuel balanced?
Auto, manual, gravity (press the low tank button-the one you wanna send fuel to)
Balance fuel using Auto
Uses XFLOW pump
Flows through cross tank
System detects low on one side, automatically sends 200 lb +50 lb to low side
We don’t touch buttons to cause this
Balance fuel using Manual
Uses XFLOW pump
We have to turn it on & off again
Select MANUAL & which tank you wanna send fuel to
Balance fuel using gravity
Open valve and it sends it from high tank to low tank
What happens when we hit L or R BOOST PUMP button?
When does the boost pump turn on?
What would INOP mean in regards to BOOST PUMPS?
Arms the boost pump (plugs vacuum in).
Low pressure is sensed at the main ejector.
Not armed or pump is broken.
How many fuel ejectors are there?
2 main ejectors
2 scavenge ejectors on each side
2 transfer ejectors
When would the transfer ejectors send fuel from the center tank to the mains?
Min bulk fuel temp in flight
-40 degrees C
Min bulk fuel temp before takeoff
-30 degrees C
Min engine fuel temp
5 degrees C
What would happen if the service people dont turn off the DC service light?
It will drain APU battery
First flight of day, turn on BATTERY MASTER, what do we do after that?
Wait 30 seconds then do fire system test
11 lights total
Advisory message: FIRE SYS OK
After FIRE SYS TEST
Check batteries, DC electrical synoptic, make sure there is 22V on both main and APU battery
Then we go to start the APU, what does that look like?
Press PWR FUEL switchlight Door open In bite status Gauges (will appear on EICAS display 2) SOV open status (APU) Then select START/STOP switchlight Then we get APU start message Starter becomes available for loading at 99% RPM + 2 seconds
What’s the APU generator rated at?
40KVA 115 400HZ up to 41,000 ft
When does continuous ignition automatically come on?
Stall
With stick shaker
What are we looking for during normal engine start?
Fuel pumps ON
Engines START (hold START button until it illuminates)
RIGHT ENGINE START status message
Set timer
Limitation is 90 seconds
20% N2 & 120 degrees ITT (needs to be below this)
If you’ve reached 90 seconds and haven’t achieved this criteria, hit stop
Then we can introduce fuel
Engine start complete
Repeat for other engine when you’re in line for takeoff
Limitation-each engine needs to go through 2 mins stabilized at ground idle before full thrust
How do we shut down an engine?
Thrust lever shut off
Fuel pumps off
Selecting ENG FIRE PUSH switchlight does what things?
Closes fuel/bleed air/hydraulic SOVs, arms affected side squibs, affected IDG taken offline
Can the IDG disconnect manually without us hitting the DISC switchlight?
Yes, if the shaft becomes sheared or the solenoid melts
If you hit AC ESS XFER switch
Means BUS 2 is now powering ESS BUS
AUTO XFER FAIL means
Generator overcurrent or bus fault
Where does AC BUS 1 normally get power from? (Describe AUTO XFER function)
Look at synoptic (on side, inside, cross side, outside)
GEN1
APU GEN
GEN2
External AC
Same for BUS 2 (on side, inside, cross side, outside)
