impact of liberal reforms - workers Flashcards
1
Q
workers - low wages
A
B1: in 1908 they introduced a maximum working day of eight hours for miners.
B2: the Shop Acts of 1911 limited working hours (60 hours maximum) for assistants and guaranteed them a half day off each week.
F: by introducing fewer hours - this reduced fewer accidents in mines as miners were not as tired as they previously would have been - the Shop Act helped previously ignored voluntary measures.
A: however, even though the workers did benefit from fewer hours, 60 hours was still very long to work in difficult conditions.
