impact of labour reforms - education Flashcards
education - ignorance
B1: the 1944 education act was designed by the wartime government and was brought by Labour to tackle ignorance. the act aimed to improve education by raising the leaving age to 15.
B2: under the education act, all children sat an exam aged 11 (called the 11+) - those that passed the exam went to the senior secondary schools and those that did not went to the junior secondary schools.
F: senior secondary schools focused on academic subjects, whereas junior secondary schools focused on trades - this allowed young people to get an education based on their skills - and help clever poor children work their way out of poverty.
A: however, the 11+ was criticised because children that failed often remained in poverty - many arguing that this was unfair.
