elderly - old age pensions

B1: in 1908, the Old Age Pensions Act introduced pensions. pensions gave people over 70 a weekly income.
B2: this was between one shilling (5 pence) and five shillings (25 pence), married couples received 6 and 7 shillings.
F: older people at the time were hugely grateful for the support they received - many were said to say ‘God bless lord George’ when going to the post office to receive their pensions.
A: however, many old people could not claim pensions - including people who had been in prison.
