Q

ACIP=Advisory Council on Immunization Practices

A
17
Q

Adults age 65 and older for influenza vaccine

If none of these 3 vaccines is available at a vaccination opportunity, then any other age-appropriate influenza vaccine should be used

These vaccines are able to initiate more of an immune response so sometimes its harder for an older adult to have a great immune response but giving one of these 3 will help an older adult to mount a response sufficient to prevent future illness with influenza

A
18
Q

IIV3-inactivated influenza vaccine, 3 means its trivalent so there’s 3 strands of vaccines in there

A
19
Q

You should always have a plan for someone who has an allergic reaction including anaphylaxis so your always vaccinating when you have 2 epi pens available

A
20
Q

Can the flu vaccine cause influenza?

A

No, the intramuscular vaccine cannot cause influenza its an inactivated vaccine it is NOT a live vaccine

21
Q

Live intranasal so flu mist CAN NOT cause illness because it cannot replicate in temperatures of the lower respiratory tract its cold adapted virus meaning it can grow in nasal passage and it cannot replicate in temperatures of lower respiratory tract

A
22
Q

how can you combat this and reassure somebody that the flu vaccine did not make them sick we tell people when we immunize that it TAKES ___________TO BUILD THEIR IMMUNITY so if a person were exposed to a virus during this time they may indeed become ill so they should stay protected and stay away from sick people for at least those two weeks they are not protected yet…so they could have already been coming down with something when they received the vaccine…the vaccine it could be less than 2 weeks so there’s a number of things that could actually be at play but know that the flu vaccine DOES NOT cause influenza in a patient

A

2 weeks
