When might a vaccine be withheld?
Child is sick, adverse reaction to prior vaccine, live vaccine in immunocompromised people
Common side effects of vaccines?
Swelling, redness, fever, rash, fatigue
Difference of live vaccine side effects?
May present 5-7 days after vaccination
DTaP: Diphtheria, Tetanus, Acellular Pertussis vaccination schedule
2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 15-18 months, 4-6 years. Given under age 7
TDaP: Tetanus, Diphtheria, Acellular Pertussis vaccination schedule.
11-12 years. Need a booster every 10 years
(HIB) Haemophilus B Influenzae vaccination schedule
2 months, 4 months, 12-15 months (if needed)
(IVP) Inactivated polio virus vaccination schedule
2 months, 4 months, 6-18 months, 4-6 years
(MMR) Measles Mumps Rubella vaccination schedule
12-15 months, 4-6 years
Hepatitis A vaccination schedule
2 dose series given between 12 months and 24 months
Hepatitis B vaccination schedule
Birth, 1-2 months, 6-15 months
(RV) rotavirus vaccination schedule
2 months, 4 months, 6 months (if treating rotavirus)
Pneumococcal conjugate vaccination schedule
2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 12-15 months
Meningococcal vaccination schedule
11-12 years and 16 years
Influenza vaccination schedule
Annual vaccine. Cannot be given before 6 months
