(immunity) Flashcards
Define first line of defence
Provide ‘barriers to invasion’ to prevent the entry of a microorganism. It is genetically preprogrammed and remains constant throughout life (does not contain a memory function).
B lymphocytes
Plasma and memory B cell.s
Helper T Cells:
interact with phagocytes to set off specific immune response
Cytotoxic T Cells:
(killer cells) attack body cells which are infected by the pathogen.
Suppressor T Cells:
‘suppress’ immune response once infection is defeated.
Memory T cells:
remain in body for future.
Antigen:
a toxin / foregin substances that induces an immune response.
Antibody:
A large Y shaped protein that deactivate foreign substances, creating an antibody-antigen complex
Macrophage:
White blood cells with a pattern recognition receptors. They englulf the pathogen and or antigen and transport it to the lymphnodes.
