Immune Quiz Flashcards
What factors weaken the immune system
stress, diet, alcohol, loneliness, nicotine, UV radiation
which WBC’s are capable of phagocytosis
monocytes & neutrophils
what are the parts of the lymph system
lymph capillaries, lymph nodes, spleen
what are the functions of the spleen
store RBC, destroy RBC & platelets, help fight infection
what are the main concerns if the spleen is removed
immunosuppression - infection
Macrophage to Helper T (Cell mediated)
decides whether antigen is good or bad (gateway to immune memory response)
Cytotoxic T (killer)
seek, destroy, fight foreign cells (virus, cancer, bacteria)
Memory T
keeps in memory which cells to kill next time
Suppressor T
stops immmune response (tells killer cells to stop fighting so they don’t kill the good cells also)
Macrophage to helper T (humoral)
can’t decide whether the antigen is good or bad - sends to B cell
B cell
decides whether antigen is good or bad
Memory B
keeps in memory which cells to kill next time - make more antibodies
Plasma cell
makes antibodies that wrap around bad cells
suppressor B
stops the antibodies
the main difference between humoral and cell mediated
humoral uses antibodies
