IMMS Flashcards
What enzyme catalyses the conversion of ADP to ATP?
Adenylate Kinase
What is the enzyme catalysing the reaction between glucose and Glucose-6-Phosphate?
Hexokinase/Glucokinase
Name the enzyme which forms Fructose-1,6-bisphosphate.
Phosphofructokinase 1 (PFK-1)
Name an allosteric activator of PFK-1
AMP, Fructose-2,6-bisphophate
Name an allosteric inhibitor of PFK-1
ATP, citrate
Which molecule activates pyruvate kinase and where?
fructose-1,6-bisphosphate activates pyruvate kinase in liver and blood.
What step does pyruvate kinase catalyse?
Phosphoenolpyruvate to pyruvate
What does increasing insulin do? (In terms of glycolysis)
Increased insulin, increased Fructose-2,6-bisphophate so increased glycolysis.
What causes a decrease in Fructose-2,6-bisphophate and what is the effect?
Cause is increased glucagon
Effect is decreased glycolysis.
Main products of glycolysis?
2 ATP, 2 NADH, 2 pyruvate
What happens to pyruvate in anaerobic conditions?
The enzyme lactate dehydrogenase catalyses the reaction to form lactate.
The reaction is reversible.
Where does the link reaction take place?
mitochondrial matrix
Link reaction
Pyruvate + Coenzyme A + NAD —> acetyl-CoA + CO2 + NADH
Enzyme - pyruvate dehydrogenase
Where does glycolysis occur
Cytosol
What are the products of one Citric acid cycle?
3 NADH, 1 FADH2, 1 GTP, 2 CO2, CoA
