What is digital Radiography?
Digital radiography screen-film combinations are replaced by digital systems
What 2 digital radiography systems are there?
CR = computed radiography DR = Digital radiography
How does a CR image receptor work?
The x-ray excites the phosphor crystals and creates a latent image, a laser in the processor ‘reads’ and erases the image so the record is made and the cassette can be reused immediately
3 steps: expose, read, erase.
Advantages of CR systems
- can be digitally enhanced
How does DR work?
converts xrays into electrical charges either directly or indirectly
the image is captured and sent directly to the computer
Advantages of DR systems
- compact
- immediate access to images
- improved performance
Potential disadvantages of CR/DR systems
- expensive
- on going maintenance
what is fluroscopy?
involves the use of xrays to evaluate the dynamic characteristics of organs
How does fluroscopy work?
continual imaging of moving organs
what is fluroscopy effective when it is paired with?

Disadvantages of fluroscopy
- expensive
- Higher radiation risk for pt, operator, assistants
