What is the hip dysplasia scheme
A skeletal abnormality where the head of the femur does not articulate properly with the acetabulum of the pelvis.
This allows joint laxity which can lead to lameness and osteoarthritis

Ventrodorsal of the pelvis with legs extended

- GA
- Dog in dorsal recumbency, hind legs extended, stifles rotated inwards until the patella are on the midline over the trochlea grooves and femour is paralel
- film size large enough to fit whole pelvis
Submitting xrays to the hip dysplasia scheme
dogs must be at least 12 months
giant breeds need to be atleast 18 months
Owner must supple past breeding history
What does a hip score less than four mean
dog is free from hip dysplasia
What does a hip score over four mean
the dog is increasing in severe hip dysplasia

To identify dogs with ED
