Computed Tomography Flashcards
What is tomography
the use of xrays to create a sharp image of any selected plane within the patient
what is conventional radiography
In an image of all superimposed layer of objects in the beam path, which can cause confusing or distracting shadows
what is film tomography
- to get an image in one plane only, the image of the tissue above and below the selected plane are blurred
what is film tomography useful for?
Complex structures such as spines, abdomen, thorax and joints
what does c.t stand for?
Computerised tomography
how do CT images work?
An xray beam is passed through a thin cross-section of the body while the xray tube rotates around the patient during the xray exposure
advantages of CT scans
Improved radiographic contrast resolution
cross sectional anatomical presentation
more accurate than conventional xrays
Disadvantages of CT scans
High cost
GA required
Weight limitation
Size limit on the enclosure
