Image Acquisition Flashcards
RWS (review workstation)
-advanced post processing features
-digital reading room darker than film reading rood
-digital= illuminance 20-45 LUX (viewing conditions under QC)
Mammography monitors review workstation (RWS)
MQSA minimum is 5 megapixel monitors
How are prior images retrieved?
- manually retrieved
- prefetch: triggered by schedule, usually night before
-autofetch: triggered by first image arriving into PACS on day of exam
Marking ROI on RWS
-can be stored as an overlay on original image (not suggested)
-may be stored as secondary capture (SC) or screenshot (preferred). lower quality image with marking
When a pt schedules an exam, where is her information entered into?
HIS (hospital information system) or RIS (radiology information system)
What is pts information converted into?
HL7 (health level seven) computer language
What does HIS manage?
the information related to health care and manages data from ALL departments (medical, legal, admin, financial)
What does RIS manage?
the radiology department and its specific modalities
DICOM (digital imaging and communications in medicine)
used to share radiology images and data b/w different systems made by different manufacturers
PACS (picture archiving and communication system)
-medical imaging technology used in healthcare organizations to securely store, retrieve, and transmit electronic images and reports from multiple modalities
-medical language for PACS is DICOM
Cloud storage (cloud PACS)
-offsite server
-backup to traditional PACS: authorized users can have access to images anytime anywhere (imaged available for 30 days)
EMR (electronic medical record)
EHR (electronic health record)
-digital version of paper chart that contains patient’s medical history from one practice
-ability to share this info across other health org.
image/data compression
-data stored in smaller package
-req. less space & less money to store
-allows images to move faster over network
Lossy data compression
-greater degree of compression
-req. less space
-30:1 ratio
-some data loss upon retrieval
-not allowed for FFDM
Lossless data compression
-2:1 ratio
-only format for FFDM
-not insignificant in terms of saved space
-no data loss
