What is an IGO?
A
- Organization comprosed primarily of sovereign states, or other intergovernmental organizations
- Are established by treaties or other agreements that acts as charter creating the group
- Examples : united nations, world bank , European union

Little history of IGOs
A
- The first and oldest intergovernmental organization is the central commission for navigation on the rhine, created in 1815 by the congress of Vienna
- The goal was to establish a new balance of power in Europe to prevent imperialism in the region, like the Napoleonic empire, maintain the peace. Another goal was to prevent political revolutions, such as the French revolution, so they could maintain the status quo.

The purpose of international organizations
A
- Because of the relationship and interdependencies between countries in the new era, organizations require that their country, throough established relationship and controlled.
- Governments in these international organizations or objectives have been met, further coorperation will be provided. In this context we are witnessing the emergence of such needs and international organizations in the sphere of politics and international relations of the XlX century as well.
- Maintaining peace and security by the major powers and controls of the two important international organizations “league of nations” and the united nations.

We can classify IGOs using four criterias :
- General and global – United nations
- General and regional – OAS
- Specialized and global – WHO
- Specialized and regional – PAHO

Global Governance
A
The sum of the many ways individuals and institutions, public and private, manage their common affairs. It is a counting process through which conflicting or diverse interest may be accommodated and cooperative action may be taken. It included forma as well as informal arrangements that people and institutions have agreed to or perceived to be in their interest
