Dorr Rebellion

A

Date: 1842

What: Thomas Dorr and a group of people formed the peoples party where they drafted a new constitution. They put the constitution to a vote where many people approved of it but the legislatures naturally disapproved it. This lead to a rebellion

Why: This spurred the legislation to draft a new constitution that would greatly expand the suffrage.

What: The process of giving out jobs as political rewards.

Why: Jackson believed in a very democratic matter and he believed that the common man should have a place in office. This also showed that there could be multiple parties.

Peggy Eaton Affair

A

Date: 1820’s

What: This was a taverns daughter who was already married but she was having naughty relations with John Eaton. When her husband died her and Eaton were married. She became a cabinets wife but many would not accept her as one.

Why: Even though people are leaders, there is always scandalous things that go on.

Nullification Crisis

A

Date: 1832-1833

What: Confrontation between South Carolina and the United States Government. They implemented taxes that SC did not like. On February 1833 they nullified it, or rejected it.

Why: They called for military preparation which the last time it had been called had been before the revolutionary war.
