Ice and Rain Protection Flashcards
Define Icing Conditions
SAT on ground and TAT in flight is 10ºC or below and visible moisture is present.
When should the engine anti-ice be used?
Anytime icing conditions are present. Ground or flight.
If taking off into icing conditions what must be done prior to applying takeoff power?
Engine anti ice on
WAI on simultaneously (1 sec)
Monitor wing temp
Delay until WAI temps have reached 130ºF and stabilized within 10ºF
Limitations of WAI
Do not use above 10ºC or below -40ºC.
Select WAI R-L to ON within one second of each other.
Use of AUTO WAI mode is prohibited?
In the AUTO mode, when will the EAI activate?
When the PIIDS detects ice.
Explain how the PIIDS detect ice.
Ice changes the detectors resonance frequency. at .02” of ice the detector activates internal heater to remove the ice. CAS message latched for 60 seconds.
What is the source of air for EAI?
Onside HP on a dedicated duct.
If a GEN fails ans WS heat is reqd, what action should be taken?
OVRD must be selected on since it was load shed.
What is the time limit for use of PROBES HEAT OVRD on the ground?
30 seconds
15 for test
Describe what happens when the L WAI is selected to ON.
The L WAI valve is opened, L side bleed air will flow to the left wing and right wing through a WAI interconnect line. Both wings will be heated.
R ENG A/I Fail ON (amber)
Indicates EAI is operating uncommanded. Valve is powered closed and fails to open.
What does the selection of Windshield heat to HI do?
Changes the distribution to a more focused area in front of each pilot. The HI/LOW switch does not change the set temperature of the WS.
When is the AOA heated?
Lightly heated on ground and fully heated after takeoff WOW.
When are the static ports heated?
Never
When is the ice detector heated?
Briefly after it detects .02” of ice buildup. Turns off after ice has shed.
