Soft tissue injuries
Best when used as a part of a balanced analgesic regimen
What is pyrexia?
abnormal elevation of body temperature : fever

Analgesic (relieves pain)
Antipyretic (reduces temperature)
Anti-inflammatory (reduces inflammation)
Contra-indications of Ibuprofen?
DO NOT administer if the patient is:
- Dehydrated
- Hypovolaemic
- known to have renal insufficiency
- Patients with active upper gastrointestinal disturbance
- A woman in the last trimester of pregnancy
- A child with chickenpox
- A patient who has previously shown hypersensitivity reactions, in response to ibuprofen, aspirin or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs
- A patient with active peptic ulcer/haemorrhage
- Patient with severe heart failure (NYHA class IV), renal failure or hepatic failure
What does It mean If someone is considered hypovolaemic?
Also known as volume depletion or volume contraction, is a state of abnormally low extracellular fluid in the body.
This may be due to either a loss of both salt and water or a decrease in blood volume.
Hypovolemia refers to the loss of extracellular fluid and should not be confused with dehydration.
Common examples of hypersensitivity reactions to ibuprofen?
asthma
rhinitis
angioedema
urticaria
Common examples of upper gastrointestinal disturbance in patients where ibuprofen should not be given?
oesophagitis
peptic ulcer
dyspepsia
When should further non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), i.e. Ibuprofen not be given?
If an NSAID containing product has been administered within the last 4 hours or if the maximum cumulative daily dose has already been given
Cautions of Ibuprofen use in patients with asthma?
Use cautiously in asthmatic patients due to the possible risk of hypersensitivity and bronchoconstriction
If an asthmatic has not use NSAIDs previously, do not use acutely in the pre-hospital setting
Cautions of ibuprofen use in older patients?
Exercise caution in older patients ( >65 years old ) that have not used tolerated NSAIDs recently
Cautions of ibuprofen use?
Asthma
Older people
Patients with coagulation defects
