Tablet containing 4 milligrams of Chlorphenamine maleate
Oral solution containing 2 milligrams of Chlorphenamine maleate in 5 ml

Indications for Chlorphenamine?

A

Severe anaphylactic after initial resuscitation.

Symptomatic allergic reactions falling short of anaphylaxis but causing patient distress e.g. severe itching

A

An antihistamine with anticholinergic properties that blocks the effect of histamine released during a hypersensitivity (allergic) reaction

Contra-indications of Chlorphenamine?

A

Known hypersensitivity
The anticholinergic properties of Chlorphenamine are intensified by monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs).
Chlorphenamine injection is therefore contraindicated in patients who have been treated with MAOIs within the last fourteen days
