A

Treatment of moderate to severe UC flare

A

Screen for C diff

If negative: intravenous methylprednisolone doses of 40–60 mg/d or equivalent are the mainstay of therapy.

IBD w/u

A

CBC-may see anemia (malabsorption, bleeding, chronic disease), elevated plts or wbc
CMP-electrolyte imbalances, low albumin, elevated liver studies
CRP-inflammation
ESR-inflammation
IRON STUDIES-evaluate for deficiency related to bleeding or malabsorption
B12-malabsorption
STOOL STUDIES-Rule out infection
FECAL CALPROTECTIN-inflammatory marker in stool. May be normal or elevated
GOLD STANDARD FOR DIAGNOSIS IS ENDOSCOPIC EVALUATION AND PATHOLOGY
